Have you ever noticed this strange similarity between fear and faith?
Fear asks us to believe in the worst-case scenario as if we’re terrified of something that hasn’t even happened yet. It’s like our minds are playing tricks on us; convincing us that there is indeed a monster under the bed. But here is the thing, fear does not know for certain.
Faith, on the other hand, is deeper. Faith is never disappointing because faith is an assurance. Faith is where the mind and soul join in a deep conviction of the truth, even though as with fear, some things may not yet be seen.
And that is the key difference: while faith knows, fear does not.
2 Corinthians 5:7 “For we live by faith, not by sight.” Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
Maybe, just maybe, there’s a lesson in there about what to fear and where we choose to place our trust.
